Block Check-

"The Ichimatsu pattern," a checkered design featuring squares of different colors arranged in a grid pattern, gained its name during the mid-Edo period. It was popularized by the kabuki actor Sano Kawachi Ichimatsu, who frequently wore this pattern in his stage costumes. Originally, it was known as the "Ishidatami pattern," and during the Heian period, smaller versions were referred to as "arare," finding use in the attire of the aristocracy.
