舞や能など、日本の伝統芸能で用いられる打楽器の鼓。楽器文様の中では最もポピュラーで、胴のくびれた小鼓が優雅な形に染めや織りで表現されたものを基本とし、鼓の両端の革や調緒が意匠化されたもの、組紐があしらわれたものなど、さまざまな表現が見られます。花が描かれ、飾り紐があしらわれ華やかに表現されたものは「花鼓文」と呼ばれます。

The elegant shape of the drum, with its tapered body, is often expressed through dyeing and weaving. There are various interpretations, including designs that incorporate the leather and cords at both ends of the drum, as well as those adorned with decorative cords or featuring floral patterns, known as "Hana-tsuzumi-mon," which add a touch of glamour.
