菱形の中に花びらを4枚入れた花菱は、形が大変美しいことから白生地や帯の地紋にも多く使われます。シンプルで整った形状であることから、他の文様と組み合わせられることもありますが、基本的には季節問わず身に着けることができる文様です。4つ組み合わせて菱形を構成したものは「四花菱」と呼ばれます。
